Entrepreneurial Students Showcase Their Ideas

-Receive Mentoring from Yonsei Alumni

On April 26, aspiring entrepreneurs at Yonsei had the opportunity to showcase their creative ideas and products at the President’s Residence. For the event, Yonsei Enterprise Support Foundation invited Yonsei alumni who work as venture capitalists, allowing the students an opportunity to discuss their ideas with them.

Some of the ideas exhibited included: Solgit’s “Inmap,” an application that creates custom maps; a custom babysitting service by Noldam; and stretching equipment by JE. The event was part of Yonsei President Kim Yong-hak’s initiative to nurture startups. “Students these days are troubled, especially over employment,” he said, adding:

“I hope the network between students and alumni venture capitalists will be strengthened through this event.” Lee Young-soo, who entered the School of Business in 1972, called for the university to help sow the seeds of entrepreneurship: “Yonsei will be at the forefront of Korean universities if it utilizes its current excellent infrastructure to support start-ups.”

The event also marked the beginning of the start-up mentoring program, which sees alumni matched with student entrepreneurs. Student start-ups selected for this program will be mentored by Yonsei alumni for two years, while being offered seed money and investment. A staff member from the start-up support group said: “We plan to continue matching venture capitalists and student start-ups.” Plans are underway, he continued, “to create an entrepreneurship ecosystem within Yonsei through such programs.” This will involve continuing to strengthen networks between student startups, alumni venture capitalists, and alumni start-ups.
