Between April 11 and 22, the Institute of Humanities and the Yonsei University Library hosted the book exhibition “Homo Litteratus’ Library.” The exhibition, which was held in the Yonsei-Samsung Library, showcased a number of European volumes recently donated to the library.

About thirty rare seventeenth- and eighteenth-century European texts were on display, from fields such as philosophy, literature, rhetoric, geography, and art history. Additionally, the Institute of Humanities donated nearly ninety Western classics to the library. After preservation work, the books will be kept in the Center for Korean Classics Collection, where they will be accessible to researchers.

Professor Yoon Hye-joon, president of the Institute of Humanities, said: “We expect students’ interest in and knowledge of humanities and Western classics to grow as their access to these classics become easier.” Lee Jung-woo, president of the Yonsei University Library, added: “We hope to invigorate greater interest in the more than 3,000 Western classics currently housed in the library and to support research in related fields by expanding our collection.”
