Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) opened its doors in 1985; with its unique blend of Korean and global cultures, it has since become an integral part of campus life at Yonsei.

 

The 2016 program has been revamped in order to reflect students’ growing interest in the arts, culture, and humanities.
At the same time, YISS will continue to offer cutting-edge courses in management and economics, global issues, history and social science, and science and technology.
 

 

▶ Qualified Applicants
To qualify for YISS, students must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, or else be a high school senior accepted to an accredited college or university.
 
▶ Academic Calendar
•Application Deadline: May 6 (Fri)
•Application Fee Due: May 6 (Fri)
•Tuition Payment Due: May 27 (Fri)
•Field Trip: June 23 (Thu) - 25 (Sat)
•Orientation: June 27 (Mon)
•Courses: June 28 (Tue) - August 4 (Thu)
  - Course Load: 2-3 courses (3 Credits Each)
  - Classes: 4 Days per Week
  - Course Length: 100 Minutes per Day

• Credit Transferability: For credit transfers, students are advised to consult and obtain approval from an academic advisor at their home institution in advance.

 

 

■ Internship Program

 

 

Corporate Internship Program
 

Research Internship Program
 
The Corporate Internship Program offers YISS students direct exposure to global corporate settings in the heart of Seoul. Taking advantage of Yonsei University’s large alumni network and strong ties with business and educational partners, the program provides students with the opportunity to gain professional work experience and build social networks in some of the world’s leading companies and organizations.
 
This unique program is designed for highly qualified and motivated YISS students who are interested in research projects or advanced coursework. By participating as an intern in a project at one of Yonsei University’s research centers, students gain advanced knowledge and handson experience in their respective field while interacting with outstanding students from around the globe.

 

■ Field Trip and One-Day Trips

 

 

Jeju Island
 
The 2016 YISS Field Trip will visit Jeju, the largest volcanic island in Korea. This field trip will provide a pleasant and informative introduction to Korean history, culture, and one of its most scenic landscapes.

One-Day Trips
 
YISS continues outside the classroom with four specialized one-day trips on Fridays. For YISS 2016, students have the opportunity to visit Kyungbok Palace, N Seoul Tower, a Korean Folk Village, the Boryung Mud Festival, and Paju and the DMZ.

■ Special Featured Course

 

Modern Asia
Co-taught by invited distinguished faculty from Yonsei’s international network, this course examines some of the major issues
shaping the three major East Asian countries—China, Japan, and South Korea—from a comparative perspective. Topics vary each year, introducing students to a wide range of theoretical, methodological, and multidisciplinary perspectives. This featured course is taught by three globally renowned scholars: Professor Christina Davis of Princeton University, Professor Victor Cha of Georgetown University, and Professor David Kang of the University of Southern California.
