Office of International Affairs Hosts Career Mentoring Event for International Students

On November 17 and 18, the Office of International Affairs (OIA) hosted its Career Mentoring event for international students in the Global Lounge on the Sinchon Campus. The aim of the event was to expose international students to various employment opportunities available to them in Korean companies after graduation. Currently, there are more than 1,800 international students enrolled at Yonsei, and there were sixty-one student participants in all.

On the first day, Director Kim Tae-gyoon from the Seoul Global Center and Song Ho-joon, assistant director of AmorePacific’s Global HR Team, gave special lectures on specific employment opportunities for international graduates. In his talk, Mr. Song provided an overview of South Korean corporate culture and the current demand for international employees, while proffering advice on job-seeking strategies. Students expressed their satisfaction with the event, with one, a Korean Studies major from Mongolia, remarking: “This event was very practical because international students were able to gain practical information about finding jobs in South Korea. My approach regarding the job search will change for the better after attending this event.”

The second day of the Career Mentoring event included a session on writing an effective personal statement and a mock interview. The focus on preparing application documents and having a successful job interview was greatly appreciated by the participants. A Chinese student majoring in Interior Design commented: “Through one-on-one consulting sessions, I received valuable coaching and advice. This was very useful.”

The Career Mentoring event, which was first held last spring, takes place once every semester, and it is supported and funded by OIA and the Graduate School. Of the event, an OIA officer said: “This kind of event will be held consistently in the future so the international students can understand the job search better and find employment. We plan to help the students to have confidence and competitiveness.”
