Yonsei Signs Strategic Partnership Agreement with Emory University

On November 11, Yonsei signed a strategic partnership agreement with Emory University. The agreement follows extended discussions between the Yonsei administration and Emory President James Wagner, who visited Yonsei last March. Through the partnership, the number of student and faculty exchanges between the universities will increase, while cooperation in research will be enhanced. Emory is now Yonsei’s fourth strategic partner, joining Japan’s Keio University, the University of Geneva in Switzerland, and the University of Sydney in Australia.

Located in the Atlanta metropolitan area, Emory was ranked 21st in the 2015 U.S. News and World Report’s rankings, and it was selected as one of the twenty-five “New Ivies” by Newsweek magazine. Professor James T. Laney, who served as Emory’s president between 1977 and 1993, was the U.S. Ambassador to Korea from 1993 to 1997, and, as a Methodist missionary, he taught at Yonsei in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

In 1990, a student exchange agreement was signed between Yonsei and Emory. Since then, Yonsei students from the Graduate School of Theology, College of Liberal Arts, School of Business, and College of Nursing have studied at Emory.
