Underwood International College Joins the Common Application

as the First Korean Member

-A college application platform where students can apply to

600 universities worldwide with a single click

Underwood International College (UIC) is the first Korea institution to join the Common Application (Common App). It became an official member as of this fall and students were able to apply to UIC using the Common App. The Common App is a non-profit organization which provides simplified university application services for students in the U.S. and top schools, such as Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, also accept applications using this platform. Today, it has expanded its services to a wider region outside the U.S. as an integrated university application platform for more than 600 universities in 17 different countries including Canada, France, Britain, China, and Singapore.

By joining the Common App, UIC is able to reach out to a larger number of prospective applicants. Students starting with the application process can easily have access to and apply to UIC as they explore their options. Once a student registers on the Common App, he or she can submit online applications to all member universities and colleges with a single click. Currently, 850,000 applicants submit 3.5 million applications through the Common App.

A quarter of the international applicants for the fall admissions round for class starting in 2016 submitted their applications through the Common App. It is expected that the number of applicants who use the Common App will grow and that the upcoming March admissions round will draw even more students. Becoming a member of the Common App is significant also because it is an important source of information for college counselors and high school teachers who need to prepare, advise and guide their students through university applications. As a member of the Common App, UIC will now be competing with some of the top schools in the U.S. for the best students and increasing its presence as an elite liberal arts college in Asia as well as promoting Yonsei University to the world.
