College of Theology Participates in Mural Painting

On November 6, students from the College of Theology participated in the Hong Je Cheon Mural Volunteer Service Project, which is part of their Service Leadership Initiative. The students prepared the wall for the mural by scraping away moss and applying a white base coat to it. Artist Joo Young-geun then drew outlines on the wall, which the student volunteers colored in. The Yonsei students were organized in teams of five or six, led by a graduate student, and each team was responsible for three meters of wall space. In all, the finished mural took up 180 meters.  

College of Theology Dean Kim Sang-geun organized and supervised the volunteer painters. He said: “Service to the community is one of the reasons that colleges exist. As students of theology, we believe that learning from the practice of service is as important as learning from books. This volunteer service was organized to emphasize the practice of living a Christian life. When ordinary or even bleak wall spaces are transformed into beautiful art, it pleases the community by providing it with beauty.”
