For 100th Anniversary, College of Science Holds Science Show for the Youth and Public

—Intended to Kindle Curiosity and Passion for Science

In conjunction with its 100th anniversary, the College of Science held the inaugural “Science Show for the Youth and Public.” The event was designed to foster scientific curiosity in young students and give members of the public a greater appreciation for the work undertaken by Yonsei scientists. A number of Yonsei faculty members volunteered to give presentations, and the show was made possible thanks to the cooperation of the Seodaemun-gu Office. The Science Show was well attended, with many hundreds of enthusiastic audience members.

Two of the most popular presentations were given by Professor Kwon Young-joon from the Department of Physics and Professor Noh Yi-gn from the Department of Atmospheric Science. Professor Kwon spoke about dark matter, while Professor Noh gave a lecture dealing with climate change. Both of the professors fielded a number of questions from interested young students, and they happily stayed an extra half-hour to continue speaking with them. Dean Park Seung-han of the College of Science was very pleased with the results of the Science Show, saying, “the College of Science has led Korean science for the past century, and such talent donation by our faculty members will be continued.” Mun Seok-jin, director of the Seodaemun-gu Office, said: “I greatly appreciate that this opportunity to learn more about science was arranged by great professors from Yonsei’s College of Science.”
