International Campus and Yonsei Technology Holdings Receive Management Awards from Maeil Business Newspaper

— International Campus Awarded for Leadership Management;

Yonsei Technology Holdings for Win-Win Growth Management

The Yonsei International Campus (YIC) and Yonsei Technology Holdings were awarded 2015 Best Management prizes by the Maeil Business Newspaper. The awards are designed to encourage public institutions and enterprises to find creative solutions for addressing global economic crises. According to Professor Oh Se-jo, YIC vice-president, the international campus’s award for Leadership Management recognizes its ongoing efforts “to become Asia’s premier educational and research hub through creative and innovative education and research.” He added that YIC “is developing innovative leaders through IT-integrated education in the School of Integrated Technology, the Institute of Convergence Technology, and Underwood International College.” Other distinctive features of YIC’s premium education include the Residential College, which promotes meaningful communication between professors and students, and the holistic education curriculum, designed to foster well-rounded individuals.

The function of Yonsei Technology Holdings (YTH) is to create profits from intellectual properties resulting from research and development undertaken by Yonsei personnel. YTH also facilitates technology transfers between the university and private companies; in cases where Yonsei researchers have difficulty in transferring their technology, YTH will establish a subsidiary company to assist them. The prize for Win-Win Growth Management was awarded to YTH for the substantial profits it has generated the past several years. In particular, YTH achieved a turnover of 9.4 billion won last year by selling shares in one of its subsidiaries, Raphas, which is commercializing a biodegradable microneedle technology created by Yonsei researchers.  According to Kim Eun-kyung, CEO of YTH, “Yonsei Technology Holdings has achieved an important milestone in the history of university technology holdings companies.” She added that YTH “will create additional subsidiary companies to commercialize creative properties. In the future, we will strive to maximize our profits while maintaining internal stability.”
