Japan Day: Training Global Minds through Cultural Exchange

—Occasion to Learn about Japanese Culture

Global Day is held once a semester at Yonsei, and its aim is to promote awareness of and appreciation for other cultures. This semester, it was named Japan Day, and it introduced the history of Japan and its traditional and modern culture to Yonsei students through a number of activities. Some of these included wearing Japanese traditional costumes and having photographs taken, learning the nuances of tea ceremonies, a Japanese-style scenery photograph contest, and a quiz on traditional Japanese culture. All of these events provided fun and interesting ways for the participants to learn more about Japan and its people.

Japan Day was organized by the student organization Yonsei Global. A representative said of this year’s Global Day: “We realized through the engaged participation in the event that there are many Yonseians who are interested in Japanese culture. We plan to come up with more fun and interesting program for our next Global Day.” Japan Day received funding and support from the Office of International Affairs, and it was held in the Global Lounge on the Sinchon Campus.
