Yonsei Professor Lee Min-goo of the College of Medicine’s Pharmacology Department has been chosen as a winner of the ninth Kyoung Ahm Academic Award. Along with Professor Lee, the winners of this year’s award include: Professor Lee Young-hoon (Economics, Seoul National University), Professor Jang Suk-bok (Chemistry, KAIST), Professor Bak Jum-ghi (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Busan University), and a Special Achievement Award was given to Kim Dae-joong of the Chosun Ilbo.
Professor Lee has received international attention for his research on epithelial transport, which refers to the process by which substances are transported through the very densely-packed epithelial cells. From his research on epithelial transport and cytology in the gastrointestinal and respiratory systems, Professor Lee proposed an innovative direction for the treatment of cystic fibrosis autistic patients.
The Kyoung Ahm Academic Award is designed to support and promote pure academic research, and it is administered by the Kyoung Ahm Education and Culture Foundation chaired by Song Geum-jo. (Mr. Song, who is CEO of the Busan-based Taeyang Group, has personally donated 1 billion KRW to the foundation.) The Kyoung Ahm Academic Award ceremony will be held on November 8 at the APEC House in Busan, and each recipient will receive a monetary award of 200 million KRW.
