UIC’s Shinhan Distinguished Faculty Program & James T. Laney Endowed Faculty Program Underwood International College (UIC) continues to take a leading role in fulfilling Yonsei’s commitment to a world-class university. Under this mission, UIC has designed two programs that invite global scholars to engage in research projects and educational opportunities at Yonsei. The first one is the UIC Shinhan Distinguished Faculty Program. Funded by Shinhan Bank since 2006, this program has invited a total of 24 scholars, including professors and presidents of globally recognized universities, winners of the Nobel Prize, and OECD officials (see the table below). Through such program, UIC plans to continue inviting such prominent scholars from a wide range of fields, including the humanities, social sciences, and science and engineering. While the college will have 5 or 6 scholars invited as UIC Shinhan Distinguished Faculty, UIC seeks to incorporate extended periods of stay on campus (e.g., one semester or one year) which will eventually provide more opportunities to Yonseians.
