On March 3rd, Yonsei President Jeong Kap-Young visited Stanford University in USA, having a meeting with Acting President John Etchemendy and university officials. The two parties introduced their strategies and visions for globalization and shared their experiences. They discussed in particular international exchange programs and other educational programs, with special focus on the International Campus of Yonsei University. They also agreed upon the support for membership of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU), an international consultation organization which seeks to invigorate research exchange among prominent universities in the Asia-Pacific region. From March 6th to 7th, President Jeong was invited to the TechFest 2012 of Microsoft Corporation, in which he received project reports from researchers at Microsoft Research. He also discussed talent exchange programs and research collaboration projects with Craig Mundie (Chief Research and Strategy Officer), Rick Rashid (Chief Research Officer), Peter Lee (Corporate Vice President), and Hsiao-Weun Hon (Managing Director). President Jeong Kap-Young conversed about the plans for mutual collaboration and exchange alternatives with other university presidents and officials from Korea, including those from Seoul National University, Ewha Woman’s University, and Pohang University of Science and Technology. The presidents and officials, in particular, agreed upon the necessity to reinforce the educational and research competitiveness of universities in Korea.
