19-Day Journey of 560 km from Haenam to Seoul The 2nd Yonsei Great Cross-Country Journey, organized by the Office of Student Welfare and hosted by the Student Association, was initiated on July 16th at Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do. On the first day, the welcoming ceremony was held in the attendance of all 132 students and Professor Ahn Kang-hyeon, Director of the Office of Student Welfare. On August 3rd, 132 students from Sinchon and Wonju Campus finished the 19-day journey of 560 km from Land’s Edge village in Haenam-gun to Yonsei Sinchon Campus. The program of the Journey consisted of not only cross-country walking but diverse programs as well. The programs contained major ones such as sporting events and visits to historical sites and minor ones, including small-group discussions. The discussions, away from topics of current interest or controversial issues, were especially designed for students to share their stories of life—values, priorities, and concerns—and philosophical thoughts on subjects such as love and happiness. Mr. Lee Yeon-sang, Chief Organizer of the Yonsei Great Cross-Country Journey, says that the Journey was coordinated in order to foster leadership abilities and prepare students for future leadership roles by providing opportunities to work together, exchange ideas and information, and respect other’s opinions.
