Yonsei’s 125th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony “Filled with the spirit of gratitude and praise” On May 8th the ceremony in commemoration of Yonsei’s 125th anniversary titled “Yonsei’s 125 years with Korean Churches” was held at the Amphitheater—filled with the spirit of gratitude and praise. The ceremony was attended by over 8000 Christians or church members from famous churches in Korea, including Yoido Full Gospel Church, Myungsung Presbyterian Church and Kangbuk Leading Church. The first half of the ceremony consisted of sermons and prayers delivered by well-known ministers, including Reverend Lee Jeong-ik (Shinchon Seongkyul Church), Reverend So Hwa-chun (Chungju Jae-il Church) and Reverend Yoon Ho-kyun (Hwakwang Church), and church hymns sung by a union choir comprised of about 2000 church members. Also, the first black gospel female group in Korea—Soul Singers—performed for the ‘Worship and Praise’ section. In the second half, CCM singer Song Jeong-mi presented blessing songs, Korean actor Lee Young-hu recited a congratulatory poem, and the CCM vocal group Marchus and CCM singer Sohyang put on celebration performances. Also, the highlight of the second half was meeting the ‘Yonsei Stephen Hawking’ Shin Hyun-jin (Computer Science, Yonsei University) who is living with spinal muscular atrophy, a neuromuscular disorder. In his congratulatory remark, Yonsei President Kim Han-joong said, “Yonsei University will carry on with a strong sense of vocation and foster warm-hearted elites who serve their neighbors and country.”
