Severance Hospital and Qingdao Municipal Hospital Sign MOU

—Establishment of Comprehensive Cooperation System

Severance Hospital and Qingdao Municipal Hospital, located in China’s Shandong region, have signed an MOU establishing a comprehensive cooperation system. As part of the agreement, the two hospitals will share medical technology and scientific research, while collaborating on improving hospital administration. The MOU calls for doctors from Qingdao to visit Severance for three to six months to attend training workshops; there will also be training workshops for nurses held two or three times each year. And once a year, the Sino-Korea International Medical Conference will be held.  

Other educational programs included in the MOU are exchanges for medical residents and graduate students. Severance’s medical services will be made available to Qingdao patients, meaning that they will be able to come to Seoul for treatment. Conversely, if they are too ill to travel, Severance medical staff will visit them in China to assist in treatment. Lastly, the two institutions will collaborate in order to improve hospital administration and medical services in general. 

The MOU will allow Qingdao Municipal Hospital to enhance its medical technology and services, while Severance will increase its visibility in China and contribute to bettering diplomatic relations between the two countries. Dr. Yoon Do-heum, director of Severance Hospital, said of the agreement: “The interchange between Qingdao Municipal Hospital and Severance Hospital will create a new medical culture, one that links medical services in Korea and China and provides a model to the world for the future of medical systems.”
