Guidance on Application for Double Major for Graduation Candidates, for Fall Semester 2021



1. Eligibility of Application

    Students who are scheduled to graduate in August 2021 and have cleared the graduation requirements;

    ※ Applicants scheduled to complete in August 2021 and before, and undergraduate transfer students
          are not eligible.



2. Departments Available for Declaration

    1) All the departments in the exception of the Department of Architecture (5 years),
         Department of Global Convergence Engineering, Department of System Semiconductor Engineering, 
         College of Music, Underwood International College, Global Leaders College, College of Medicine,
         College of Dentistry, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and Wonju College of Medicine.

    2) Students are not eligible to apply for the same department or major
         (including second majors for students under intra/inter-campus double major program)

    3) Students who apply for a double major program in the Department of Education,
         and the Department of Physical Education cannot obtain teaching licenses after completion.
         However, students who have been selected as candidates for teaching profession with
         successful attainment of requirements for qualification for teaching licenses are eligible for teaching
         licenses upon completion of the double major program.



3. Declaration Procedures

    Evaluation of documents and interviews (written tests can be scheduled if necessary)



4. Documents to be Submitted

    1) 1 copy of Prospective Graduate Major application form [Including ID photo (4 cm x 5 cm)]
         <Refer to the attached file format (Korean)>

    2) 1 copy of the academic plan [Including the recommendation letter of the head of the department]
         <Refer to the attached file format (Korean)>

    3) 1 copy of the certificate of expectant graduation

   ※ Additional submission in exception of the three aforementioned documents are not accepted
         and will be disposed of for fair evaluation

    * If the tuition fee is not paid within the registration period, admission will be canceled.
      Graduation will be processed with the first major in February 2022 and a certificate of degree
      will be awarded.


※ Additional Notice Regarding Receipt of Application Documents

      In consideration of the current COVID-19 pandemics, applications via registered mail for the 
     application for double major for graduation candidates for fall semester 2021 are to be allowed 
     exceptionally. (However, this applies only if the current dean of the department grants 
     permission for non-face-to-face recommendations through mediums such as e-mail.)

      1) Application via registered mail is only available to Mirae Campus,
         with documents registered until June 25 (Fri) to be accepted.

      2) Upon submitting registered mail, application documents (application form, academic plan,
            certificate of expectant graduation) shall be submitted in the original form. If students have received 
            recommendations from the respective department deans through non-face-to-face consultation,
            they are to submit a printed version of the following information (e-mails, etc.), and under such case,    
            "Dean's recommendation" section as well as the official signature within the Academic plan document
            can be excluded.

      3) Students can submit their application by directly visiting the campus, and in such a case they are
            to submit the application documents (application form, academic plan, certificate of expectant 
            graduation) in the original form. However, if students have received recommendations from the 
            respective department deans through non-face-to-face consultation, they are required to submit
            a printed version of the following information (e-mails, etc.) as well.



6. Notes

    1) Selection Requirement

        ① Acceptance for graduation candidates’ double majoring application can be canceled
               if students are unable to meet their graduation requirements for their first major.


    2) Restriction of Financial Assistance Scheme for Double Majoring Graduation Candidates

        ① Double majoring graduation candidates are not eligible for intra/inter scholarships
             or student loans (inclusive of type 1 & 2 National Scholarship under Korea Student
             Aid Foundation).

        ② Double majoring graduation candidates are not eligible to receive graduation certificate
               for their first major (even when graduation from that major had been approved),
               as they are recognized as undergraduates.

        ③ Students in the Department of Education, and Department of Physical Education who have been
               selected as candidates for teaching profession with successful attainment of requirements for 
               qualification for teaching licenses prior to application for double major for graduation candidates
               are eligible for teaching licenses upon completion.

        ④ If a student chooses to drop out, or get expelled (failure to register, failure to return
             after the break, poor grades, exceeding the designated semesters), they will be processed
             for graduation. Re-enrollment as a graduate is not allowed in any case, and academic
             records of the incomplete graduation candidates’ double majoring cannot be reflected
             on a students' academic records as a double major/minor.

 

    3) Course of Study, Maximum Term of Study, Leave of Absence

         Double majoring graduation candidates are required to register for at least 3 semesters
             (4th Semester and above to be counted as extra semesters), and their term of study cannot 
             exceed 6 semesters in total.

        ② Double majoring graduation candidates are not permitted to take leave of absence that exceeds
               1/2 of the time period for the maximum term of study

        ③ Double majoring graduation candidates are not permitted to take a general leave of absence.
               Leave of absence is allowed only for cases of military service and disease.


    4) Completion Requirement and Degree Conferment

        ① Double majoring graduation candidates must complete the minimum credits in each course
               (at least 51) according to the academic regulations of respective departments.

        ② Double majoring graduation candidates, upon completion, will receive the certificate of degree
               along with their certificate of degree for the first major.

              (Though certificates of degree will be issued separately, they will be issued under the same 
               degree registration number)


    5) Other matters shall be in accordance with the university regulations and the detailed       
         regulations pertaining to the university's double major implementation.
