Alumni Reunion for 25th and 50th Anniversaries of Graduation

Homecoming for entering classes of 1969 and 1994 (graduating classes of 1973 and 1998 for the Department of Medicine)

On May 13, Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, held a "reunion event to commemorate the 25th and 50th anniversaries of graduation." The event was for the alumni who entered in 1969 and 1994, except that the Department of Medicine was for the graduating classes of 1973 and 1998.

The annual alumni reunion event began in 1956 and is one of the traditional events representing Yonsei University. It is Yonsei's own treasure and asset that cannot be compared to any other university in Korea. In particular, this year's event was the first joint event held together by alumni of the two different entering grades in four years since the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing them to have a richer and more meaningful time.

More than 1,300 alumni, President Seoung Hwan Suh of Yonsei University, President Kyung-Sun Yu of the Yonsei Alumni Association, and former presidents and professors attended the event.

"Time leaves traces on appearance, but I don't think I can even find traces of time while I'm with our alumni who visited the campus. I hope you can share the joys and sorrows of the past with the excitement of freshmen who just entered the school and feel the romance of the campus for today," said President Suh in his welcoming speech, "While you spread out your dreams outside the campus, Yonsei has been striving to develop by fostering talent suitable for the changing times. Today's grown and developed Yonsei will be the source of your unwavering pride." He asked them to pay more attention to and support the development of the school.

"I think you must be remembering the passion of your youth and the warmth of Yonsei as you participated in today's reunion event and walked around the campus that has changed a lot," said President Yu of the Alumni Association, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude and applause to the alumni who met again today. After leaving the campus with graduation, you have lived a fierce life and hardships but have not always lost your pride as Yonseians."

Greetings from the representatives of the 50th-anniversary reunion alumni and the 25th-anniversary reunion alumni followed the event. President Suh presented plaques of appreciation to the representatives, while all alumni of the 50th-anniversary reunion delivered a development fund of 943 million won, and all alumni of the 25th-anniversary reunion delivered 67.9 million won, sharing the joy of helping their alma mater grow into a prouder school than now.

Alumni also had time to deliver bouquets and souvenirs to their professors to thank them. Honorary Professor Tae Dong Han of the Department of Theology participated as the representative professor for the 50th-anniversary reunion, while Professor Seung Ham Yang of the Department of Political Science and International Studies was the representative professor for the 25th-anniversary reunion.

Various performances followed at the second part of the event, which was hosted by alumni TV broadcasters who entered in 1994. A celebratory poem and a choir performance prepared by the 50th-anniversary alumni who entered in 1969, and a talk show hosted by another TV broadcaster who entered in 1994. They could also recall their school-day memories by joining the stages by current students, including the performance of the rock band "Sonagi" and cheering time with the Cheering Squad "Akaraka."
