Congratulating the graduation of 2,620 bachelors, 804 masters, and 425 doctors


On February 27, Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, held the February 2023 Commencement Ceremony. A total of 3,849 Yonseians received their diplomas on this day, including 2,620 bachelor's degrees, 804 master's degrees, and 425 doctorate degrees.

Chairman Dong Soo Huh of the Yonsei University Educational Foundation, President Seoung Hwan Suh of Yonsei University, and Chairman Kyung-Sun Yu of the Yonsei University Alumni Association participated in the commencement ceremony, along with many graduates and parents.



"Graduation is not the end of learning, but the beginning of more learning," President Suh said in his commencement address, "Please don’t neglect to read the changes in the world and gain new knowledge." He also emphasized, "Superconvergence, which is essential in the era of the 4th industrial revolution, is only possible through collaboration," adding, "Always keep in mind that what can be achieved only with individual ability or confidence, and cooperate based on understanding and respect for the other person."



The ceremony drew attention as South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol attended in person to congratulate the graduates. President Yoon said in his congratulatory speech, "Yonsei's spirit of "Truth will make you free" has become a beacon of light for the times, and the Yonseians have played a big role in every crisis in Korean history." He also encouraged graduates to dream and challenge for a better future, saying, "Don't forget that Korea's remarkable growth and new leap start with you."



The valedictorian Won Jongwook, a master of science, said in his valedictory speech "Leaving Yonsei," "We are blue eagles who are more experienced than anyone else, ready to leave Yonsei and show our capabilities to the world," adding, "Now I hope we all spread our wings and embrace the world." He also promised to remember the beautiful moments on the campus, saying, "I believe that although everyone leaves the Yonsei campus, their heart will remain in Sinchon until the end."
