Master's Student Seoyoung Hong Wins the IEEE Big Data

Best international academic conference in the field of big data

Seoyoung Hong, a master's course student at the Big Data Analytics Lab, the Department of Artificial Intelligence, won the Best Student Paper Award at the "IEEE Big Data 2022," one of the most prestigious international academic conferences in the big data field, on December 19.

IEEE Big Data is one of the best academic conferences in data mining, according to Google Scholar. The Best Student Paper Award is an honorable award given to only one of the papers with students as the first author.

The award-winning paper, "TimeKit: A Time-series Forecasting-based Upgrade Kit for Collaborative Filtering," presents a technique for predicting future embeddings of collaborative filtering recommendation systems using state-of-the-art time series prediction-based models such as neural CDE. It has improved the performance of existing collaborative filtering models by up to 68% by learning user consumption patterns inherent in user and product embeddings.

"I have been immersed in research on the recommendation system, which has been the most interesting field since I entered graduate school, and I am delighted to be recognized worldwide for its achievement," Seoyoung said, "I sincerely thank Professor Park Noseong for guiding the study and also the co-authors."
