"Gateway to Graduate School" Held for Graduate Students

Orientation Event Successfully Held on August 10

On August 10, Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, held "Gateway to Graduate School," an orientation event for first-year graduate students entering September this year. The orientation for first-year graduate students, which was held for the first time in two and a half years due to COVID-19, was held successfully, with about 500 new students attending.

As Yonsei University is promoting the improvement of the academic system and the educational and research environment through the 4th Stage BK21 Project, Yonsei is planning fundamental improvement of the graduate school constitution and change to a research-oriented university. While the previous orientation events were organized by faculty members, this year’s event was planned and conducted by graduate students. It was characterized by being part of a graduate innovation project that provides the necessary information to actual graduate students.

In his welcoming speech, Professor Park Seung Han, Vice President for Research Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School, explained the key goals of the BK 21 Graduate School Innovation Project: improving the student-demand-oriented academic system, promoting the rights and interests of graduate students, expanding interdisciplinary convergence education and research programs, improving various systems and expanding extracurricular programs, and creating a research immersion environment by expanding scholarships and improving research environment. "As the ESG value of Yonsei and the importance of social contribution grow, we will spare no support for graduate students so that practical research can be conducted at the graduate level,” said Vice President Park.
