College of Computing Holds Unveiling Ceremony for Symbol Stone and Launching Workshop

Trains Global Talents that Lead the Era of Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence

On June 2, Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, held the unveiling ceremony for the symbol stone of the College of Computing and the launching workshop of the college.

Yonsei University, which has already established the Graduate School of Artificial Intelligence in 2019 and produces 50 masters and doctors every year, newly established the College of Computing this year to train high-quality talents in AI and lead the era of human-centered artificial intelligence through AI convergence education and research. The College of Computing has recruited undergraduate students in the Department of Artificial Intelligence since 2022 to lay the groundwork for fostering consumer-centered AI convergence personnel.

The launching workshop was held to celebrate the establishment of the College of Computing. Under the theme of "Challenge of Artificial Intelligence and Convergence Technology for the Future," Korea's top AI experts, including executives of companies such as Naver AI Lab, KakaoBrain, Woowa Brothers, Lunit, Qanda, 42dot, and POZAlabs, gathered to give lectures on new paradigms of industry, research, and education.

In the panel discussion that followed, under the theme of the future of AI technology, the necessity of AI convergence technology, and fostering AI talent, participants had time to discuss what and how industries and universities should prepare at the beginning of the social innovation that digital technology innovation will bring about.

"The College of Computing will conduct close industry-academic cooperation and international joint research with more than 100 domestic and overseas institutions to foster global AI talent and play a pivotal role in promoting AI convergence education for all Yonsei students and activating research through LearnUs, a new education support system established by Yonsei University," said President Seoung Hwan Suh of Yonsei University in a congratulatory speech, "We will try to make the College of Computing the best educational and research institution that leads the world's AI technology."

"The College of Computing aims to foster the world's best SW and AI core and convergence talents," said Professor Hojung Cha, the first Dean of the College of Computing, "And it will leap to the world's highest level in the fields of CS and AI by establishing small and strong research groups that reflect Yonsei's unique characteristics."

Yonsei University's College of Computing was not established to simply provide coding technology education for artificial intelligence. It will provide advanced education that combines diverse and rich AI application research such as engineering, humanities, social sciences, law, business administration, and medicine, and plans to expand the opening of AI convergence classes for all Yonsei students.
