Socially Prominent and Influential Alumni Who Can Positively Represent Yonsei
Five Alumni Ambassadors with President Suh of Yonsei University and President Yoo of Alumni Association
On May 16, Yonsei University and the Yonsei University Alumni Association held an "alumni ambassador appointment ceremony," with nine socially prominent and influential alumni who can positively represent Yonsei.
At this time, when Yonsei University should enter the way into a world-class university, there is a need to strengthen public relations to promote Yonsei and differentiate it from its rival universities. In response, Yonsei decided to select alumni who will actively participate in public relations on behalf of their alma mater, among many Yonsei alumni active in academia, culture and arts, entertainment, and sports.
A total of nine influential figures from various fields, including Heo Hoon (basketball player, Sports Leisure Studies, entered in 2014), Heo Ung (basketball player, Sports Leisure Studies, entered in 2012), Kang Hye-Jung (soprano, Voice, entered in 1997), Oh Eun Young (psychiatrist, Medicine, entered in 1985), Oh Sangjin (announcer, Business Administration, entered in 1998), Paik Jongwon (CEO of TheBorn Korea, Social Work, entered in 1985), Ryu Soyeon (golfer, Physical Education, entered in 2009), Seo Jang Hoon (entertainer and former basketball player, Social Sports, entered in 1993), and Son Yeonjae (former rhythmic gymnast, Sports Leisure Studies, entered in 2013) were selected as the alumni ambassadors (in alphabetical order).
The appointment ceremony was attended by personnel from the university and the alumni association, and five of the appointed ambassadors.
"Yonsei University is making efforts in various fields, including education, research, and social contribution, but it is also important to inform our society effectively," said President Seoung Hwan Suh in a welcoming speech, "I hope Yonsei will develop through mutual communication with the alumni ambassadors by sharing with them what is happening at the university and listening to their suggestions."
"The alumni who came here today are the proud symbols of Yonsei," said President Yoo Kyung-sun of the Yonsei University Alumni Association, "One of the most important roles of a leader is to play a role model so that another future leader can be produced," he added, "I hope your activities will let people know that Yonsei is a university that takes the lead in fostering future leaders."
The alumni ambassadors appointed on this day will participate in various activities for promoting Yonsei University, including events co-hosted by the president and the alumni association. The term of the ambassadors is about two years until January 2024.
