Under the Theme of “Staying Connected,” 14 Works Presented to Connect Isolated and Separated Society

On November 24, the Information and Interaction Design (IID) major at Underwood International College of Yonsei University held its 7th graduation exhibition, at the Muak Rotary Hall in the Commons on the Sinchon Campus, Seoul, South Korea.

The IID major, based on the principle of human-centered design, strives to enable discoveries of new possibilities through the synthesis of creative design approaches, relevant technology, and rigorous and systematic thinking through research while nurturing global talents who can meticulously shape the form and behavior of products, services, environments, and systems that embrace real-world challenges.

A total of 14 IID students presented their works under the theme of "Staying Connected." The theme showcased the diverse interests and talents of students as they explore the possibilities of design in connecting the isolated, separated, and marginalized society.

Works on display include a graphic poster exploring the themes of alienation, oblivion and loneliness, interactive media art that locates individuals' buried emotions, and eco-friendly packaging designs through upcycling. Adding on, in this year's exhibition, artificial intelligence (AI) was actively incorporated in students' works as they suggest solutions and improvements in this modern society; Ranging from a mobile application that helps prevent neck pain and neck disorder due to excessive computer usage, an exercise posture correction and overall fitness management app, an interactive media art that visualizes human and human behavior in one space, to a survival game to promote awareness of differences between humans and machines. On top of that, works of various genres ranging from UX (user experience) design to motion graphics, video, packaging design, games, service design, branding, and AR technology were displayed in the areas of life and environment that improve the quality of life.

At the opening ceremony on the first day of the exhibition, professors, students, parents, graduates and various associates participated to celebrate the students’ graduation and their new start. The 7th Graduation Exhibition of the IID at Underwood International College was held amid much interest and expectations for five days from November 25 to November 29.

All visitors to the exhibition were mandated to wear masks while following the COVID-19 guidelines. Also, for those who have not been able to visit the exhibition, students' descriptions and photographs of the exhibits were presented on the official website of the 2021 IID Graduation Exhibition.
