Yonsei Attains the Highest 'Grade A' for MOE's University Innovation Support Project Performance Evaluation

Exemplary Performances in Project Promotion Output and Education Innovation Performance

Yonsei University in South Korea has attained the highest 'Grade A' for the Republic of Korea Ministry of Education (MOE)'s University Innovation Support Project performance evaluation for both of its Sinchon and Mirae Campuses, with the result announced on September 15, 2021.

The following evaluation was conducted by combining the annual evaluation score of the second year as well as the comprehensive three-year evaluation score (2019-2021), with Yonsei receiving exemplary scores across indicators such as ▲project promotion output, ▲project management organization, ▲promotion system, ▲diversity in the major decision-making process, and ▲education innovation.

In the University Innovation Support Project, Yonsei's Sinchon Campus has been pursuing diverse educational innovations with the establishment of five innovative strategies (future leading education, creative·convergence education, social problem-solving education, strengthening customized student support system, and creating an ecosystem for educational innovation), along with other areas of innovation such as the establishment of technology-based education platform, creating educational content with the use of new ICT technology, promotion of United Nation Sustainable Development Goals awareness, strengthening community cooperation, and pioneering the practice of inter-university shared campus. In particular, Yonsei's development of immersive real media-based experiential education/teaching system and social problem-solving education program received positive evaluation feedback, with both of them expected to fulfill social responsibilities through the use of human and physical resources of the university.

Additionally, the Mirae Campus has also established a project system linked to seven multi-round specialization strategies (wide recruitment of new students, autonomous selection of majors, major specialization in response to social changes, promotion of innovative teaching·learning methods, Big data-based intensive student support) to support its effort for education innovation, including the establishment of a conducive platform for the cultivation of creative·convergence talents, promoting excellent models for convergence education, and AI-based intensive student support. In particular, the Mirae Campus received positive evaluation feedback that its wide recruitment of new students and autonomous major selection policy, along with double major programs were exemplary education direction in an era of convergence, while its concept for big data and AI-based intensive student support system was reviewed to be excellent.

Based on the results of the evaluation, Yonsei University will receive additional incentives for its University Innovation Support Project, with the specific budget planned to be determined in early October.

"Yonsei University has proactively responded to the post-COVID era amidst the pandemic, and added the active participation by each and every member we managed to attain the highest 'Grade A' in the University Innovation Support Project performance evaluation," stated Yonsei University President Seoung Hwan Suh. "We will continue to push for educational innovation to foster creative talents who could lead the era of the fourth industrial revolution."

The University Innovation Support Project, carried out by the Ministry of Education of ROK, is a project that emerged through integration and reorganization of existing projects such as ACE+ (autonomous competency), CK (specialization), PRIME (industrial linkage), and CORE (capacities in humanities education) into a single general financial support project with the aim of supporting the universities' efforts in autonomous innovation through means such as strengthening basic competency and pursuing a strategic specialization in response to future social changes and a need for the establishment of an effective system for cultivation of creative talents, building foundations for nation's growth. Yonsei University has received approximately 27 billion won for its innovation support project since 2019.
