Yonsei University Library Launches a Mobile Book Lending Application ‘mY-Loan’

It has become easy to check out books on mobile

The Yonsei University Library has developed an application called ‘my-Loan,’ which is a ‘Yonsei University Library mobile book lending application’ that enables Yonseians to borrow books at the libraries of the Sinchon and International Campuses via their smartphones. The service of the application has been launched since last April.

Along with the establishment of the Radio Frequency Identifier (RFID) system in 2009, the Yonsei University Library has introduced the self-service checkout system, allowing library users to check out and return books by themselves. As the COVID-19 crisis has increased the need for non-face-to-face services, the Library launched a mobile application ‘mY-Loan’ last April in order to meet the needs imposed by the pandemic and to improve the user experience.

With the launching of ‘mY-Loan’ application, users of the Sinchon and International Campus libraries can easily borrow books without visiting the loan kiosk or lining up in front of the loan service desks. This is expected to increase the convenience of checking out books and protect individuals’ privacy. In addition, it will reduce the burden of operating library hardware management and increase operational efficiency.

The application is currently available on both Android and iOS systems. Yonseians can easily install the application by clicking ‘Library’ in Yonsei University’s mobile application ‘Y-TOP.’ Also, they can download it by typing ‘mY-Loan’ at Google Playstore or App Store.

The application can be used at the Central Library and the Law Library on the Sinchon Campus and the Underwood Memorial Library on the International Campus. Users can log in to the application after accessing their ID cards at the library entry gates. Users can borrow books by scanning their registration barcodes with smartphone cameras. They can also check the status such as the expected date of return.

Since its launch in May, more than 1,100 individuals have installed the application and have borrowed more than 1,200 books. The Yonsei University Library said, “(we) will continuously strive to improve user experience by introducing new IT systems for a smart library and to provide new infrastructure and services.”
