Yonsei community shows school spirit with creative designs
To celebrate its 135th anniversary since its founding in 1885, Yonsei University held a special contest for Yonsei students, faculty, and staff this year to design Yonsei Eagle emojis. Held during March 23-April 10, the competition was aimed at commemorating Yonsei’s founding spirit through creative and original emojis based on the Yonsei Eagle, the university's beloved symbol and mascot.
Contest participants were to design a set of 12 emojis (either 12 still-motion emojis or a set of 9 still-motion and 3 gif emojis) inspired by the Yonsei Eagle to be used for university branding and communications. The contest was a great hit among members of the Yonsei community, with over 120 submissions and 5,541 Yonseians taking part in the final online vote for the seven finalists.
With over 23% of the overall votes, the “Eagle in Varsity Jacket” submission was awarded the Grand Prize, with “Yon-suri” and “Yon-juri” following second and third respectively.

“My team members and I created these emojis as part of a group project in my Understanding Digital Content class last year,” said grand prize winner Ji-Hyun Hwang. “The designs are based on survey results for Yonsei students’ most often used phrases. I hope that Yonsei students will enjoy using the emojis to communicate better with each other, even after I graduate.”
