Guide dog Noon Song becomes Yonsei's first honorary canine student
April 24 is 2019 International Guide Dog Day!
To celebrate devoted guide dogs helping the visually impaired, Yonsei University accepted guide dog Noon Song as its first honorary student. Since the 2019 spring semester, the two-year-old Noon Song has served as a guide dog to Lee Ye-won, a senior majoring in psychology, and is Yonsei’s first canine student.
Yonsei student Lee Ye-won with her guide dog Noon SongProfessor Cho Chang-hwan, Associate Dean for External Affairs and Development, presented the honorary student ID to Noon Song at a ceremony on April 17, 2019. “As of this April, Noon Song is officially a Yonsei student,” he said. “The University will treat her equally and with respect.”

to Noon SongThe student ID ceremony took place during an event held in front of the Student Union Hall, where students and faculty participated in fun fact quizzes and guide dog walks to raise awareness and share knowledge on guide dogs and people with vision impairment.

Quiz event on guide dog factsJointly held by Yonsei’s Disability Services Center and Samsung Guide Dog School in commemoration of the National Day of People with Disabilities (April 20) and International Guide Dog Day (April 24), the event aimed to promote the rights of students with disabilities and to support policies that ensure equal access to opportunities and programs on campus.
