Yonsei Named Korea’s Most Reputable University for Social Responsibility

Yonsei places first in 2018 Social Responsibility Private University Rankings in Korea

Yonsei University placed first in the 2018 Social Responsibility Private University Rankings in Korea for the second consecutive year, receiving top ratings in university employment, student education, environment, and university governance.

The rankings focus on how universities contribute to social engagement and promote socially responsible behavior throughout the university as well as with the local community. The ranking index is calculated by a compilation of seven performance indicators: Employment, Human Rights, Students, Local Communities, Environment, Justice, and Governance. Yonsei University received an A+ evaluation in the categories of Employment, Students, Environment, and Governance.

Yonsei University received the highest grade in the Students and Environment categories for two consecutive years. Yonsei’s high rating in the Students section - which holds the largest percentage of the total score - signifies the university’s supportive relationship with its students. Within the Students category, the university ranked the highest in the educational facility capacity and full-time faculty retention sub-categories. Yonsei’s A+ in Environment reflects its commitment to responding to environmental issues as a member of the international community - various criteria for evaluation cover green campus development, information security, and research institutes for sustainability or social responsibility.

Yonsei also received A+ evaluation in the Employment and Governance categories, performing even better than last year’s rankings. Yonsei received perfect scores in the personnel expenses and part-time lecturer wages sub-categories within the Employment section, as well as in three sub-categories of the Governance section - donations, transferred funds from the university foundation, and accumulation of university funds compared to tuition fees - thus proving its sustainable university management as a socially responsible university.

Conducted by the Korea Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Institute, French newspaper monthly Le Monde diplomatique, The Sustainability Journal, and Korea Social Responsibility Network, the rankings abide by the guidance on social responsibility published by the International Organization for Standardization in 2010.
