Yonsei signs MOU for sustainable development and future cities with Tsinghua University

Yonsei University Research Institute of Future City and Society, Tsinghua University Institute for Sustainable Development Goals and Yeosijae Future Consensus Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding on February 8 to facilitate collaborations and conduct comprehensive research on future cities, smart city technology and sustainable city development technology. The three institutes also agreed to expand the field of study and collectively seek solutions to issues relating to future cities.

Under the MOU, the partners will promote joint research projects, hold guest lectures and visits, and exchange students interested in studying sustainable city systems, city environment and social sustainability, finance and economics relating to future smart cities.

Chairman Lee Kwang-jae of Yeosijae said, “The agreement between Korea and China will foster the creation of new sustainable future cities that encompass the values of both Eastern and Western civilizations.”

Yonsei University Research Institute of Future City and Society is strengthening its global and domestic research network for smart cities by signing a cooperative research MOU with Stanford University last December and forming joint research partnerships with domestic organizations, including K-Water, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, and Korea Electric Power Corporation.

Kyung Tae Lee, Senior Vice President of the International Campus at Yonsei University, stated that the institute is currently underway to sign an MOU with the University of Copenhagen, allowing Yonsei “to lead the research of smart cities, a core aspect of the fourth industrial revolution, through its extensive research network.”
