University Innovation Best Practice Forum held to share best examples of education innovation since the pandemic

Last November, Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, held its inaugural University Innovation Best Practice Forum to share insight and introduce model examples that innovated education in the post-COVID-19 era. The forum was held virtually at the Yonsei-Samsung Library on November 30, 2020, and was broadcast live on the University Innovation Support Project’s YouTube channel

“This year, universities are at a new crossroads of non-face-to-face education,” stated Professor Heejun Park, Head of Yonsei’s University Innovation Support Project and Associate Dean of University Planning & Development, during his opening remarks. “It is high time that, above all, we must strive to make meaningful changes in society. I sincerely hope that this forum will continue to serve as a learning venue for university innovation and provide an opportunity for us to advance forward towards a better future."

During the first session, Professor You-Kyung Han, Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Ewha Womans University, gave a special lecture on “The Post-Corona Era: Towards the University Education Innovation.” She explained that the current unpredictable situation could become an opportunity for change in the future, and universities must try different methods and approaches to innovate education for the future.

During the second session, presenters introduced Yonsei University’s various best practices and achievements in digital-based educational innovation since the pandemic.

The first presentation was given by Professor Hyung-su Kim, Director of Yonsei Digital Experience Center (Y-DEC), who explained the operation of a digital experience education course to expand digital literacy and content writing skills. The talk was followed by Professor YoungTae Kim of Yonsei Enterprise Support Foundation, who introduced various activities and support systems to vitalize student entrepreneurship in the virtual era.

During the third and final session, speakers and presenters took the floor to participate in the Q&A and discussion session. They responded to questions from the preliminary survey and real-time questions from forum participants streaming the event online, which led to an in-depth discussion on the impending future of education.
