Office of International Affairs

Established in 1966, the Office of International Affairs’ (OIA) predecessor, the Division of International Education and Exchange, was the first university department in the nation to oversee international exchange. Its installation stimulated university globalization, and the office’s scope expanded drastically, leading to the upward transformation of the Division into the OIA in February 2007. The OIA operates exchange and visiting programs, global internship programs, and summer exchange and study abroad programs to broaden students’ global capacities. With the inaugural sessions of the Yonsei International Summer School in 1985 followed by Winter Abroad at Yonsei in 2013, Yonsei hosted the first programs of their kind in the nation offering inbound students the chance grow as global citizens by participating in cultural experience activities in addition to academic credits. Moving beyond traditional student exchange, the OIA has pursued participation in prestigious international research networks, such as the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) and Association of East Asian Research Universities (AEARU), where Yonsei may engage in collaborative research and strategic partnerships among leading global universities.
