- OIA Event Gives International Students Opportunity to Experience Traditional Korean Culture

On September 13, Yonsei’s Office of International Affairs (OIA) put on a traditional cultural event designed to allow international students to celebrate Chuseok, Korea’s major harvest festival and national three-day holiday.  Held at the Global Lounge, the event attracted over 150 international students hailing from North America, Europe, and various countries in Asia.
With the help of program volunteers, the international students had the opportunity to try on Hanbok (traditional Korean dress), practice making deep bows, prepare Songpyeon (small rice cakes with sweet or semi-sweet filling), while playing traditional games like Tuho (in which sticks are thrown into a large canister) and Korean shuttlecocks.  They also shared a traditional Chuseok meal.  The event allowed the participants to learn about traditional Korean culture and to more fully feel a part of the Yonsei community.

Over 10,000 International Students from 90 Countries:  Yonsei a Small Global Village

Yonsei continues to grow ever-more diverse, with over 10,000 international students enrolling in Yonsei courses each year.  As of September, Yonsei welcomed 1,867 regular degree students and 700 exchange students, while the Korean Language Institute (KLI) expects to see more than 7,5000 students this year.
