On May 2, the opening ceremony for the exhibition, “Singing the Song of Yonsei with a Brush,” was held in Centennial Hall, with President Jeong Kap-young, distinguished professors and alumni, and museum patrons in attendance. The exhibition is designed to mark the 128th anniversary of Yonsei’s founding. In his speech, President Jeong said that the exhibition can serve as “a reminder of Yonsei’s enduring spirit, of its long history of meeting challenges and accomplishing major goals with courage and intelligence.” At the ceremony, a recently-restored 1932 recording of the Yonhi College school song and cheer and the “Chosun Song” was played. It proved to be a rather touching scene, with older alumni proudly singing along with the school song and cheer. The exhibition consists of paintings, calligraphic works, and sculptures that were previous displayed at various locations throughout Yonsei. These works were organized and displayed according to four themes: “The Spirit of Yonsei,” “The Breath of Yonsei,” “The Yonsei Site” and “Praise from Outside.” Created by artists with deep affection for Yonsei, the paintings, sculptures, music, and literary works in the exhibition tell the story of Yonsei’s culture and history, embodying its enduring spirit and dreams. On this day, the Donated Artifacts Room and the Pottery and Porcelain Exhibition Room on Centennial Hall’s third floor also reopened to the public. After the opening ceremony, attendees were treated to a concert by the Mirus Trio, which consists of a piano, violin, and cello. Outside, behind the musicians, spring flowers were in full bloom, accentuating the celebrations on this day in May.
