This year’s Muak Festival, celebrating Yonsei University’s 128th anniversary, was held May 14-16 with the theme: “You and Me, Our Blue Spirit.” On the first two days, there were a variety of decorated booths and food stalls lining Baekyang-ro, along with small-scale stages for dance and music performances. On the last day of the festival, the Yonsei Blue Knights led the Akaraka cheering performance at the Amphitheater. Everybody at the Muak Festival got into the “Blue Spirit.” Sports and Leisure Studies, overseen by Professor Yoon Yong-jin, organized a coming of age event, celebrating and rethinking the meaning of becoming an adult. Students wore traditional Korean garments, or hanbok, and sat modestly in front of the Central Library, attracting the attention of passersby, especially international students, many of whom stopped to take pictures. In front of the Main Hall, the Mentors Club, an international culture and language exchange club, held the “Yonsei Gentle Mentors” event, which included the active involvement of many international students. And at the YIC in Songdo, Residential Assistants (RAs) took Polaroid photos and used the proceeds to provide cafeteria vouchers for students from low-income families. The last day of the Muak Festival was the Akaraka Concert, the tickets for which were sold out within minutes of being released. More than 12,000 students, all sporting Yonsei-blue, filled the Amphitheater. Everybody sang the Yonsei cheer songs and chanted along with the Blue Knights, the official Yonsei cheering squad. The star-studded concert included appearances by Tiger JK, Yoon Mirae, The One, YB, Girls’ Generation and Park Jin-young.
