[INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS] YNEAN 2013: Yonsei Northeast Asian Network Conference

The Yonsei Northeast Asian Network (YNEAN) took place on Sinchon campus from Jan. 28th to Feb. 2nd. The YNEAN is an international university student body-led conference which promotes human resource networks through discussions and debates on topics related to Northeast Asian countries. In its 12th year the YNEAN 2013, under the theme “The Upcoming Era of a New Generation,” was attended by some 150 students and specialists from about 20 countries, including Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Canada. In addition, a number of high school students, especially from international high schools and foreign language high schools, participated in the conference as visiting members. As for the keynote speech, a member of the National Assembly, former Korean chief representative for Korea-U.S. FTA, and Trade Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Kim Jong-hoon presented on the leadership and the state of affairs in Northeast Asia. Such specialists and ambassadors as Peace Diplomacy Planning Leader of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Kim Su-kweon; German Ambassador Rolf Mafael; Sweden Ambassador Lars Danielsson; Deputy Head of Mission of the Norwegian Embassy, Mr Sigbjørn Tenfjord; and Councilor of U. S. Politics, Edward Dong participated in the Diplomatic Round Table. The conference workshops were comprised of the four sessions: politics, culture, business, and communication. In the politics session, member of the National Assembly Lee Jae-young delivered a speech on the younger generation’s political involvement. For the business session, Professor of Seoul National University Kim Jin-kyo gave a talk on the marketing strategies and approaches aimed at new generation consumers. There was also a session where some 10 professors and specialists gave lectures on comparative analyses of the daily lives of young people in their 20s around the world, including areas in employment, housing, and marriage, from a cultural perspective.
