[INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS] Yonsei’s Aim to Internationalize its Education System

Cooperation through “3-Campus East Asia Consortium” -Academic Exchange MOU with Cornell University On December 7th, Yonsei University signed an MOU for an academic exchange program with Cornell University. As one of the US Ivy League schools, Cornell University is a prestigious school ranked 15th in the QS World University ranking list. Yonsei and Cornell agreed to expand the academic exchange program for students and professors through the “3-Campus East Asia Consortium.” As an initiation, Allen Carlson, professor of political science at Cornell University, will teach ‘Comparative East Asia Studies’ at Yonsei University International Summer School in 2013. With the implementation of the 3rd Educational Founding, Yonsei is exerting efforts to build ties with the world’s leading schools. In addition to Cornell University, Yonsei has signed MOUs with 3 other universities, including University of Chicago, University of Edinburgh and King’s College London, all of which are among the top 50 universities in the world. President Jeong Attends Roundtable Organized by The Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) at University of Wisconsin-Madison On December 10th, President Jeong Kap-young attended a roundtable organized by the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) at University of Wisconsin (Madison, 38th in 2012 QS University Ranking). Gene Philips, Director of CEAS, presided at the roundtable where President Jeong explained in detail Yonsei’s internationalization strategy and introduced Yonsei’s international residential college that is due to open in 2013. He proposed that Yonsei and Wisconsin earnestly seek academic cooperation and exchange in East Asia studies. School officials and professors at University of Wisconsin with a keen interest in Korea and East Asia studies attended the roundtable. They discussed various ways in which the two schools can set up an effective exchange program with expectations that it will greatly benefit research in related fields. After the roundtable, President Jeong had a meeting with Chancellor of University of Wisconsin David Ward at the Chancellor’s office. Ward had served a prior term as Chancellor at the University, and had also been the president of the American Council on Education for 7 years. President Jeong highly appreciated the academic cooperation between Yonsei and Wisconsin so far, and explained the many educational programs that reflected Yonsei’s aim to internationalize its education system. Chancellor Ward thanked Yonsei for its promising partnership and continuous cooperation.
