In the 2012 Joong-Ang Ilbo University Rankings, Yonsei University ranked 3rd place among the comprehensive universities in Korea, overtaking Seoul National University. In the rankings among all universities in Korea, Yonsei came in 3rd place, following Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Pohang University of Science and Technology. Yonsei’s win over Seoul National University was unprecedented yet outstanding and momentous. Part of this progress was due to Yonsei’s advancement in international standards, including publication in international journals (3rd place), impact factor of articles published in international journals (1st place), and ratio of international students in regular degree programs (3rd place). The Joong-Ang Ilbo University Rankings are based on the four sections: professor research (100 points), educational environment (90 points), reputation and social contribution (60 points), and internationalization (50 points). The top 10 rankings were taken by Yonsei University, KAIST, POSTECH, Seoul National University, Sungkyunkwan University, Korea University, Seogang University, Kyunghee University, Hanyang University, and Chung-Ang University.
