Participation from Special-Needs Students and Exchange Students Yonsei University and Korea University faced each other again at the 2012 annual Yon-Ko Games, heating up both campuses with Yon-Ko Games fever. Hosted by Korea University this year, Yonsei was defeated by its rival, although it did play well. However, in the 42 years that the games were held, Yonsei has won 18, lost 16 and tied 8 games overall still holding a higher record than Korea University. The main road leading up to the campus main gate from Sinchon subway station was decorated with blue banners a week before the games began. ‘Sinchon Eagles’ Yonsei and ‘Anam Tigers’ Korea are not only the most prestigious private schools in the country, but also sports rivals that are home to many sports stars. A football match in 1927 was the start of the Games which became an annual event in 1965 with football, baseball, basketball, rugby and ice-hockey as the 5 official sports. On September 15th and 16th this year, Yonsei University won the ice-hockey (13 to 1) and rugby (15 to 13) matches, but lost the baseball (1 to 3), basketball (60 to 74) and football (0 to 1) matches. At the stadium, foreign students participating in exchange programs or studying at Yonsei’s Korean Language Institute also cheered with Yonseians. Yonsei invited special-needs people to enjoy the festivities as well, making the Games a festival open to the local community and to those who are neglected in society. Besides the sports matches, many other events took place during the week leading up to the Yon-Ko Games. Some of them included: ▲ Cheering on the Players! (Leaving notes for players on a panel set up in front of the Main Library and also notes about when they were most proud as Yonseians) ▲ Yon-Ko Blood Donation Competition ▲ Blue Scream (Screaming “Akaraka” loudly to receive a gift) ▲ Debates about the new International Campus.
