A portion of the Rhee Seung-man Document, which is owned by Yonsei, will be transferred from the Institute of Rhee Seung-man in Jongro-gu to Yonsei University Library. On September 21st, the handover agreement was signed by officials from the two institutions—Institute of Rhee Seung-man (Director Ryu Seok-chun) and Yonsei University Library (Director Kim Jin-woo). The Rhee Seung-man Document had been preserved at the Institute of Rhee Seung-man since 1997 when Dr. Lee In-su, former Korean President Rhee Seung-man’s adopted son, donated it to Yonsei University. The materials in the Rhee Seung-man Document contain information about the former President’s participation in the Independent Movement, Founding Movement, and government activities over the course of the Enlightenment Period, Japanese Colonial Era, Liberation Period, and First Republic Period. According to Director Ryu, two kinds of documents—one written in Korean and Chinese characters before 1948, and one regarding his second term in office after 1948—have been decided to be transferred to Yonsei University. The remaining documents will soon be transferred as well.
