Leadership Special Lecture: Film Director Min Gyu-dong Film director Min Gyu-dong gave a leadership special lecture at Baekyang Hall on September 24th. As a graduate of Economics at Seoul National University, Mr. Min has won the Special Jury Prize in the 2005 Chunsa Film Festival and the 2008 Today’s Young Artist Award, which is given by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. Some of his major work include Everything about My Wife, Whispering Corridors 2, Ogamdo, The Most Beautiful Week of My Life, and The World’s Most Beautiful Farewell. In his lecture entitled “I am a Print-Era Film Director”, Mr. Min brought his audience’s attention to the joy of reading. He also shared his dynamic experiences in the film industry. The lecture was attended by almost 500 students, not only Yonseians but high school students as well. Mr. Min opened his speech with a memory back in 1988 when he attended the Akaraka festival with a lady whom he had recently met on a blind date. To his young audience, he described how daily and social life was without cell phones and personal computers or tablets. He was definitely a person from the print era. To make appointments with friends, he left notes and looked for them as well on the bulletin board on the wall in the university bookstore or had to wait in long lines to use the public phone. He was also good at writing love letters which normally became to be longer than 10 pages. In some cases, he had to write these letters for his friends as well.
