[INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS] The 1st Korea-EU Forum at Brussels

The 1st Korea-EU Forum was held at the European Parliament in Belgium from September 18th to 19th. The forum was co-hosted by Robert Schuman Foundation, Korea Foundation, and Yonsei-SERI EU Center; and attended by figures from both countries in government, parliament or council, business, academia, education, media, and culture-related domains. From Korea, the attendants included Yonsei President, Jeong Kap-young; President of the Korea Foundation, Kim Woo-sang; Distinguished Professor in the Graduate School of International Studies at Chung-Ang University, Ahn Choong-yong; Ambassador and Chief of the Mission of the Republic of Korea to the European Union, Kim Chang-beom; former Minister of the Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea, Yu Meung-whan; former member of the Korean Assembly, Park Jin; Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University, Kim Se-won; former Ambassador, Park Jun-woo; and editorial writer for JoongAng Ilbo, Bae Myeong-bok. From EU, specialists included Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, External Trade and European Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium, Didier Reynders; member of the European Commission in charge of Trade, Karel De Gucht; member of the Delegation to the Korean Peninsula and of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs at the European Parliament, Jean-Paul Gauzès; and President of the Robert Schuman Foundation, Jean-Dominique Giuliani. The participants gathered to discuss the prominent and pending issues related to both countries, including Korea-EU FTA economic cooperation, further exchange in education, culture and science, the financial crisis in Europe, and the nuclear weapon and human rights in North Korea. Planned to be annually held, the Korea-EU Forum will take place next year in Seoul.
