[YONSEI NEWS] Yonsei KLI Celebrates 200th Graduation Ceremony and Holds Commemorative Exhibition

Yonsei Korean Language Institute (KLI) of the Institute of Language Research and Education (Director Rhee Seok-Chae) will hold its 200th Graduation Ceremony on March 21. Established in 1959 as Korea's first Korean language education institution, Yonsei KLI first started out teaching the Korean language and culture to 56 foreigners, including missionaries, diplomats and students of Korean studies. The following year, 2 students graduated at the 1st Graduation Ceremony held on March 26, 1960. Marking its 53rd anniversary this year, KLI has had a total of 93,329 students so far, and among them 5,543 have graduated at the previous 199 graduation ceremonies. The 200th Graduation Ceremony will be held at Centennial Hall from 11am to 12:30pm. Yonsei President Jeong Kap-young and administrative staff as well as foreign ambassadors and representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and other related organizations along with some 1,000 KLI students and graduates and some 150 faculty and staff are expected to attend the ceremony. In commemoration of this year's graduation ceremony, a special exhibit of KLI's 53 years of history will be displayed for 2 weeks at the Yonsei-Samsung Library gallery.
