Yonsei Holds Matriculation Ceremony The 2012 Matriculation Ceremony welcoming new faces to Yonsei’s 127-year history was held at the Main Auditorium at 10am on February 29. This year, a total of some 5,600 outstanding students - 3,900 and 1,690 students at Seoul and Wonju campuses, respectively – proudly became Yonseians. In a speech, Yonsei President Jeong Kap-Young said, “Someone who knows how to respect oneself can truly serve others,” and asked that students be certain of themselves in order to become true Yonseians. He added, “The ultimate goal of gaining knowledge and seeking the truth comes from loving others more, in an even more righteous way. Instead of pursuing materialistic gain and wealth, I ask you to make endless efforts to become people of virtue and admirable character needed in the world today.” After the ceremony, the Dept. of External Affairs gave an introduction of the school to the freshmen and their parents. This was followed by programs organized by Yonsei colleges providing useful information about school life and academics. The ceremony was broadcast live on screens in Baekyang Hall and Centennial Hall.
