[INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS] Yonsei Strengthens its Networks with Chinese Universities

President Kim Han-joong and Kim Dong-hoon, Head of the Office of International Relations, visited top universities in China from October 11th to 16th to promote Yonsei and strengthen ties. They made their first visit on October 12th to North China Electric Power University and met its Dean Liu Jizhen. Last March, the two schools have signed an MOU on academic cooperation. Currently a Yonsei student is studying at North China Electric Power University through the exchange program between the two schools. Both Deans have shared their thoughts on various ways to strengthen the tie based on the MOU. On October 13th, they visited Shandong University located in Jinan, China, and attended numerous events including Shandong university's 110th anniversary celebration. On October 14th in particular, President Kim made a presentation titled "Higher Education Beyond Borders: Pioneering a New da Vinci Code" during a forum on the theme of "University’s New Role: Catalyst for Cultural Fusion." Paul Webley of the UK's SOAS also attended the session. During his presentation, President Kim emphasized the importance of consilience based on greater integration across disciplines. He called out the need for international campuses and strategies for integrating disciplines in order to nurture students with multidisciplinary backgrounds and the need for collaboration between nations and higher education institutions.
