Yonsei's gym has been reborn with a new look after being remodelled. In November, 1960, when the gym was first built, it was the largest among all university gyms. However, its structure has worn out throughout time. Construction has begun last December to newly build a sports center and to extend the already existing gym. A total of 11.4 billion Korean won was invested into the project. Phase one, which was to remodel the existing gym, has been completed and the gym reopened on October 4th. The sports center is expected to be finished in February 2012. The whole gym except for the existing steel cage and framework was removed for the remodelling process. The staircase at the front has been removed and glass walls have been installed to create a pleasant exterior. Curtain walls, sound-absorbing panels, and polymetal panels for the walls have been constructed. The first basement floor and second floor above ground have turned into cutting-edge new multi-purpose buildings spanning 2,984.48㎡. Apart from the ball game ground, the gym consists of stands that can seat 1,028 people, coach rooms, offices, shower rooms, lockers rooms, and so on. In addition, best conditions for games have been made by installing scoreboards, high-tech lighting, and sound systems. Pleasant learning environments have been created by installing air conditioning and heating systems and safety boards to protect players.
