[YONSEI NEWS] President Kim Han-joong Receives an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Keio University

President Kim Han-joong received an honorary doctorate degree in the field of medicine during a degree-awarding ceremony held in the public speaking room at Keio University's Mita Campus on October 5th. Makoto Suematsu, Dean of Keio University's School of Medicine, said that the honorary doctorate degree has been granted as a recognition of President Kim's contribution to Yonsei and to education and research in the field of public health. Atsushi Seike, President of Keio University, delivered celebratory remarks towards President Kim for his honorary doctorate degree. President Kim graduated from Yonsei University's College of Medicine in 1974 and received a Master's degree in public health in 1977 from the graduate school of Yonsei's College of Medicine. In 1984, he received his Ph.D. at Seoul National University's Graduate School of Public Health, and in 1988, he completed the doctor's program at the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina. He was a professor at Yonsei's College of Medicine since 1982. He has been Yonsei's President since 2008 after completing two significant posts including Dean of Yonsei's Graduate School of Public Health from 1998 to 2002 and President of the Department of External Affairs from 2004 to 2006. Outside of school, he has contributed to the development of the field of medicine in various circles such as the Korean Society for Preventive Medicine, the Korean Society of Quality Assurance in Health Care, and the Korean Social Security Association.
