2011 Graduation Ceremony The 2011 Graduation Ceremony was held across Sinchon Campus, including the Departments, General Graduate School, and Professional Graduate Schools. A total of 5,333 Yonseians were granted a degree, including 3,169 bachelor’s, 1,842 master’s, and 320 doctoral degrees. On this event, Yonsei President Kim Han-joong said, “I hope all Yonseians treasure the spirit and values of Yonsei”. By sharing the story of Shin Hyung-jin and his mother, President Kim asked the Yonseians to carry on with fulfilling the leadership of service and positive thinking and action. Yonsei University awarded Lee Won-ok, Hyung-jin’s mother, an honorary degree in recognition of her effort demonstrated to help Hyung-jin attend classes, take notes, and prepare for exams. While other students finished exams in one or two hours, it took Hyung-jin about six hours to take an exam. If it were not for his mother’s support and dedication, Hyung-jin could not have completed his university education. Professor Byon Hye-ran, Director of the Department of Computer Science, said, “At first, we considered giving Mrs. Lee an achievement award; but her commitment and tireless efforts deserved an honorary degree.” Professor Lee Jae-yong, Dean of the College of Engineering, also said, “Hyung-jin’s mother did not only give him rides to school and attend classes, but also worked hard to improve the facilities for the disabled on campus.”
