He met the 23 students and gave them the scholarship certificates at Allen Hall on November 9. It was when he gave a lecture during the chapel session on September 16 that he decided to make the contributions. Looking back upon the hard times he went through financially during his college years, President Lee promised to make scholarship donations in hope of encouraging students with financial hardships to finish their university education. The Office of Student Welfare and the Chaplain Office chose the 23 students from applicants who shared their stories and experiences. President Lee is now a living legend in the golf, hotel, and resort industry in Korea, but he had endured a very poor childhood. In many ways, Presdient Lee has carried out his determination to help students in need. The Lee Joong-myeong scholarship is already established, and he has made a number of donations to the Yonsei Development Fund. He has also served as President of the Architectural Engineering Alumni Association and the Vice President of the Yonsei University Alumni Association.
