[YONSEI NEWS] 9th Korea-Japan Millennium Forum

The 9th Korea-Japan Millennium Forum was held on October 13th and 14th by Waseda University in Japan. Every year, the Korea-Japan Millennium Forum is jointly held by Yonsei, Korea, Waseda, and Keio Universities in pursuit of cooperation in education and research and enhancement of Korea-Japan relations. Next year, Yonsei University will host the forum. This year, the presidents of all four universities attended the event. On the 14th, before the university president sessions, the signing ceremony for the joint declaration took place. The joint declaration commits the four universities to take congruent action towards student and faculty exchange and joint research projects. In the president session “Global Asia in the Making—University Education in Korea and Japan”, President Kim Han-joong delivered his presentation entitled “Yonsei University’s 21st Century Strategy: Pioneering a New DaVinci Code”. He defined the history and development of Yonsei University as Establishment in the 19th century, Service in the 20th century, and Global Contribution in the 21st century, emphasizing the sustainable green strategy with the Songdo International Campus. In the student session “Future Leaders’ Visions for the Next 100 Years”, Lee Young-hee from Yonsei University gave a presentation as well. Next year being the 10th anniversary, the Institute of East and West Studies in Yonsei University will organize the Korea-Japan Millennium Forum. The forum will concentrate on the long-term visions and plans between the two countries and the four universities’ role in the global Asian era.
